I’m the first to admit that I’m a retired party girl, and as such, I’m not completely current when it comes to club attire these days. Don’t get me wrong possums, I still like to party, I’ve just evolved beyond early morning walks of shame and relieving myself in back alleys. Classy, right? Don’t judge me, we’ve all been there. I do look back fondly on those days when I was a wee cowgirl, just earning my stripes on the bar scene. But I’ve graduated. I’ve moved on. I’m a 32-year-old wine swilling, aspiring coug and proud of it.
The other night, my BFF and I were on our way home around midnight (I know, ka-RAZY) after a lovely night of theatre and cocktails in the West End. We rolled through Granville Street and were taken aback by what we saw. Sat there, stopped at a red light (how fitting), we were assaulted with visions of teeny, tiny hemlines and gams galore. I use the term assaulted because, let’s face it, not everyone can pull off the my-coochie-is-nearly-exposed look (thank fuck). Everywhere I looked, girls were glammed up in dresses or skirts paired with sky high heels. First off, I’m happy to see this new generation of bar stars stepping it up a bit. I’m all about dresses and stilettos and sparkle and such. But it dawned on me just then how much things have changed.
When I was still whoring it up at the bar, it was all about the cleavage. Am I right 30-somethings? Typical female attire for a night on the town consisted of jeans, a tank top and tits. Maybe heels, but surely not 5 inch stilettos. I should mention that when I first started hitting the club scene in Vancouver, The Roxy and Stone Temple were among the hottest haunts in town, so you can imagine why things were a little understated in those days. But I swear, no one was rocking the hemlines the hoochies are now.
As we crossed over Granville onto greener pastures (ahem, Yaletown) and I turned to my co-pilot and said, “legs are the new tits”. Indeed.
What do you think possums, have you noticed this trend as well? Fellas, which do you prefer – a tight little mini skirt, or ta-tas galore? Post a comment and let me know!
I’d like a cosmo and my husband here would like a rum & coke with a side of ta-tas… 2 for ta-tas : 0 for hoochie.
haha hilarious post! I definitely agree, hemlines are notoriously short in Vancouver. It does get a little tough during the colder months for sure! I can’t remember the last time I wore pants to club! I think though that men still appreciate the boobs over legs.
I’m a confirmed ta-ta’s fan. The only way I like short hemlines is if they’re short enough to show more ta-ta’s.
Great blog post. I’ll come back for more.
